Pipelines and hedges

When major pipelines carrying water, gas and so forth are put across the Devon countryside, almost inevitably they have to cut through hedges. The necessary reinstatement of the banks can be complicated, time consuming and costly. The Devon Hedge Group has detailed guidance on how to carry out this work most effectively and efficiently with minimal harm to the hedge – see Devon hedges and development 2: Pipelines. This includes advice on scheme design and planning, on the various methods that can be used to breach and reinstate the bank and its shrubs, and on aftercare.
